So yesterday I did some expenses paid work! Had a lovely trip to Newquay to photograph an event on behalf of The Vine for Wooden Waves, a newly refurbished skate park. six hour of traveling and five hours of photography. With a wonderful assistant Cat Dance, who kept me company on the excessive train journey.
It was a good day, the weather was a bit hit and miss, but overall it was a nice day. There where two competitions, scoot and BMX in which winners and runners up won prizes donated by various labels. There where also three graffiti artist creating pieces around the park. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the finished pieces as I had to go catch the train.
This is the breif I was given for the day;
Capture the atmosphere in the park on the Community Graffiti Day. The most important shots to capture are the following:
The XtraVert Team in action
Products - Montana and Ironlak paint in boxes and being used etc. (Try not to show the two paint brands in the same shot)
Graffiti artists
The artwork being created at various stages
Images of skaters & BMX using the park / in comps
I am confident I have stuck to it and got some amazing images for them to use on promotional stuff, website etc. Still gotta sort though them all, maybe do a bit of colour correction as the weather played havoc with me yesterday, cloudily, rainy, sunny and all three together.
Funnily enough when I was sixteen this is exactly what I wanted to do as a job, extreme sport photography. I still really enjoy it. But I feel so old at skate parks now, the majority of the kids there yesterday were about 5 years younger than me. I also ache like crazy this morning from getting into obscure positions to take photographs.
When I went to talk to Lotte at The Vine, she mentioned to me they wanted to do a "28 Skates Later" at halloween and film zombiefied scooters/skaters/BMXers. So when I went yesterday I talked to the woman running it, Jenna, about her ideas(having it as part of a world record attempt) for it and talk her that I can help out make-up wise and could probally help organise getting together crew and equipment. So I left her my card and we'll have to wait and see what happens!
I now have two interviews next week as well! For PA and Admin positions. That's Tuesday and Thursday sorted.
