I got a job!
But more about that later because I have failed to write anything for about two weeks (self diagnosed myself with RSI, so had to give me arms a rest). In which not that much has happened, had two rejections. But one of the jobs went to someone who had far more experience and far more connections, so fair does. The other job, once again there was a high calibre of applicants and unfortunately I didn't make the short list, but they do want to keep my details in case another job comes up, which I guess I just have to take as a plus. I did do a days work last Sunday, five hours of running for local videographer, Icarus Films. And make a lovely £80 which took me out of my overdraft for a day or two. On the same day I did this I had an offer to do some work as a promo girl, but didn't get the message till I got home. I also got asked to do some SFX makeup for a Halloween even (if you're reading this I'm sorry I haven't got back to your email yet. I will some promise!)
I am currently waiting on replies from four jobs I really want. One of them is part-time (photography assistant at Truro college), one of them is part-time considered (Marketing Exceutive at St Micheals, which is now UCP funded, so I've applied twice), one of them is web-friendly copywriter which no real details have been released as such but am told it is going though UCP now as well, and the last is full-time (graduate SEO strategist position). I am going though a recruitment agency with this one and the woman who is dealing with this vacancy said my supporting statement was great (I sent the press release, you can see it up there^). So fingers crossed I get some interviews!
As I mentioned, I am officially employed! And it just proves it is who you know not what you know. My boyfriend's sister's boyfriend works there, and they had P/T work going, I said I needed a job when I met him on Thursday, would of had an interview on Friday but had to wait in for BT man who never turned up, so had an interview this morning and got given the job on the spot. I start on Monday. But fear not, it will not be the end of this job as 20 hours a week will not support me, so I'm going to have to get another (although in the interview I asked them if I could do hours on the Falmouth branch and they said yes). I get minimum wage, well I am assuming I do because the laws changed and everything, but in the interview I got told I'd get £5.93 an hour, but I'm pretty sure it's now £6.08 an hour. On top of that I get commission on anything I sell,I believe I am the only girl working in the store on the days I work so hopefully that will swing in my favour. I had to do a numeracy test today as part of the application. I feel having to work 17% off an item will never happen as trying to remember GCSE Maths on the spot kinda threw me, but I'm quite confident in my basic Maths, and having an electric till will always help :) Beside, the manager didn't even look at my answers and said he just has to send it off to head office. get paid last day of every month, commission kicks in the month after you earn it, discount kicks in after three months.
But he in lies my new problem. What do I wear to a men's suit shop? To deal with this problem I went and bought a maroon faux-satin dress £9, the cutest White fitted blouse with black trim and black bow £6 and a pair of grey peg legged trousers £9. I saved £42.97. And working in a clothes shop, I now feel I should write a blog about what I wear to work. Going to ransack my wardrobe tomorrow and see what I can piece together.
I start on Monday!
